Here's the roughs. We decided to go a basketball direction instead and used the skull piece for the secondary art.

Newsweek Cover


Newsweek cover for the July 20th issue, about who will be the future leader of the Palestinians.
Art direction by Michael Goesele.





Roughs. Michael like the crowd, but it felt too "Arab Spring"



So I made a quick modification to address that.


And then a tight color sketch for him to tryout with typography.


Micheael mentioned the possibility of a spread on the inside, so I made sure the final illustration could cover that usage as well.

Secessionist Hack




For Dallas Morning News story about how Putin's Russia is funding secessionists movements on the right and left within the United States.







Michael (the AD) had the good idea to have me switch the fists on the Vladimir portrait for a US maps. So I sent this color rough to show him that is was working.

Story headline was "No is Not Enough" but the story included alot about global warming killing off coral reefs so I wanted to cover that angle as well.


Tracy (the AD on this) had the good idea to combine two of the ideas for the final illustration.
